TALLAHASSEE — Florida Senate President Ben Albritton is hospitalized after doctors discovered a blood clot in his lung, according to a statement released Monday by his office.

Albritton, a Republican from Wauchula, sought medical attention Sunday morning after experiencing chest pain. He went to the emergency room at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, where physicians determined he had a small blood clot in his lung. He was admitted for overnight observation and, as of midday Monday, remained in the hospital undergoing additional tests.

Despite his hospitalization, Albritton has continued to communicate with Senate staff through phone calls and email, his office said. Senate operations and scheduled legislative business are expected to continue without interruption.

The Senate president, 57, was described as being in good spirits while he remains under medical supervision.

“He looks forward to returning to the office later this week,” a spokesperson said in a statement. “The President and Mrs. Albritton would be very grateful for your prayers.”

Albritton’s hospitalization comes during the early weeks of Florida’s 2026 regular legislative session, which began earlier this month and runs for 60 days. As Senate president, Albritton plays a central role in setting the chamber’s agenda and guiding legislation through the upper house.

No additional details about his condition or treatment were released, and his office did not indicate any changes to the Senate’s leadership or schedule.
